Issues

The issues are obvious to all California citizens:

• Why are tuition and fees at California State universities and colleges so high?

• Why is distance learning not being effectively utilized?

• Private companies like The Teaching Company offer video lecture courses of superior quality for as little as $70. (See samples). What, besides inertia, greed, and laziness, prevents the UC/CalState system from doing the same thing?

• Why is the UC Board of Regents so loaded with corporate executives and financiers?

• How many students are borrowing money to pay their tuition and how much? What are the interest rates? How many students are defaulting?

• Is accreditation necessary, or a scheme for preserving monopolies in higher education?

• Are colleges and universities adequately preparing young people to succeed?
